Earlier this spring/summer (June 14th to be exact) I had the opportunity to go on a small hiking trip with a few friends; one of them being the model Sharlene Rädlein. We drove up to the Catskill Mountains and hiked to a point known as Kaaterskill Falls. Sharlene has an ambitious goal of visiting as many of New York State’s waterfalls and visually documenting her journey. I’m one who’s down for the adventure especially when it involves taking photos in an amazing environment.
Waterfalls have frequently showed up in dreams throughout my life and taking photos in front of one came as second nature to me.
The swimsuit Sharlene was able to get her hands on is from a California based company called Rocha Swim founded by Danielle Rocha. I’m hoping to pull more swimsuits from upcoming designers in the future as I anticipate doing a lot more tropical-esque photoshoots in the future. The Kaaterskill Falls proves that even in NY we have some places with a tropical spirit.
The photos from the shoot were all taken between 3pm to 5:30pm and despite it being a relatively warm day the mist from the waterfall made the air chilly; in-between shots Sharlene’s skin had goosebumps. The rocks didn’t make for much comfort on her feet either considering she was barefoot while shooting. I managed to squeeze a little bit of video during the shoot to which I’ll be posting in the days to come. We had to work very quickly because all of the shots were taken in natural light without the aide of a reflector—the lighting wasn’t much of an issue though since I prefer more “moody” images.
I’ll be updating this post in the days to come as there’s actually a behind the scenes video to accompany the photos.
